The first step into the construction process of your project is the design and layout of your cafe. Our team consists of architects, engineers, drafters and general contractors to provide us with all the tools that our customers need to successfully design and build their dream business. Our designs are both functional and unique. Our team of designers will first evaluate your project by determining your budget, menu offerings and the anticipated volume of your business. We will use our years of experience in designing over 500 coffee businesses across the United States, to determine the most effective flow and functionality of your food business. Location Evaluation & Selection
Our consultants will evaluate your location to determine any unknown dynamics that could affect the design and layout of your café. We will discuss critical details such as menu offerings, espresso and coffee equipment, target market and anticipated volume. If you do not have a location selected our consultants will provide you with a location selection materials to assist you in potentially finding, negotiating and securing your location.

Consultation
Once you have decided to work with Advanced Fabrication, a conference call is scheduled with our entire team of consultants to become familiar with your project, goals and vision of your café. It also gives us and opportunity to find out what you want your cafe to look and feel like. What items you would like to be on your menu or an evaluation of your companies existing menu? Discussions about the business name, café colors and décor, and food preparation procedures will be reviewed and evaluated. We also determine the brand and how you want it to be portrayed, marketed and implemented into the layout. Finally, budget for your project is determined and how it will relate your vision, anticipated volume, product selection and location.

Timeline
A time line will be provided to you for review and evaluation, so that you are educated in the process for completing your new business. This time line will indicate the critical steps involved in opening your café and serve as a guideline for you to follow in the months following. A call will also be placed by our project manager to multiple governing authorities regarding your project, and a pre determined list of vital questions will be asked. Our project manager will ask questions relating to zoning, health department, building department, grease traps, bathroom capacity and ADA compliance. More specifically, the turn around time for your city or county to review and approve your project.

Existing Wall Plan
Existing wall plans are useful for determining the square footage available, and implementing the most suitable layout based on the available space. These plans also help our designers determine where new walls will go up and old walls need to be removed to achieve the new layout. Dimensions of existing walls can be obtained through the owner of the property, developer of the property, or through an on-site consultation with one of our representatives.

New Wall Plan
The new wall plan will show you the locations of the new wall locations, determined by your desired layout. The measurements from the existing wall plan will be used in the new wall plan. These plans are useful for calculating floor space for casework, equipment, seating areas, and design materials such as flooring. These plans will show the proposed location of new walls, doors, and windows etc.

Floor Plan Revisions
After the desired floor plan is chosen, a follow up consultation is performed to discuss revisions. At this point we will re-visit the original vision for the design and layout, and work to incorporate those aspects into the final floor plan.

Final Floor Plan
The floor plans are the foundation for the design and overall result of your project. This step allows us to provide you with the initial picture of how your café will layout with reference to casework, equipment, displays, seating areas, etc. We will provide you with a floor plan based on your goals and vision that we discuss in the initial design consultation.

Floor Penetration Plan
Having us create your floor penetration plan better prepares you for the health department process, and could potentially reduce architectural fees. The floor penetration plan provides the location of drains, fresh water lines, and electrical conduit that will penetrate the floor or walls. This is determined after the desired layout is chosen to coincide with the placement of specific pieces of equipment. Local health department codes are considered with regard to placement and quantity of fixtures.

Material Selection
Work with our team remotely or come visit us in Sunny San Diego and our designer will sit down with you in our sample material room and work together with you in selecting your cafes materials, paint colors lighting etc. When designing your café, it is important to set your business apart from competitors and establish your brand’s identity. This can be done with unique materials and design elements all provided at our facility and we are able to go one step further and show you a variety of projects that are in construction at our facility. We offer thousands of choices in a variety of materials from high pressure laminate, acrylic solid surface, stone, canvas, and various species of wood for decorative millwork options and lighting samples.

Plumbing and Electrical Requirements
Part of the process of planning for your equipment set up requires the gathering of technical information as it relates to power and water requirements. Amp loads, voltage, phase, and pressure requirements will be assessed, and the information will be provided for use by your architect for submission to the health department.

Elevations
Elevation plans will provide sectional, customer, and barista views of the café’s casework and equipment. It will show you height and width of cabinetry, storage, refrigeration, pastry case(s) coffee/espresso equipment and sinks. These plans will allow you to have an accurate depiction of the casework with equipment on top along with detailed dimensions for the length, width, and height.
